Nevertheless, never mind that as that’s the ultimate reason why our studio hired a dozen of professional and seasoned dancing instructors…

Welcome to the Instructors page at Step By Me Dance Studios, nestled in the heart of Westminster. Our team of professionally trained ballroom and Latin dance instructors brings passion, precision and personality to every class—whether you’re stepping onto the dance floor for the first time or polishing your technique for competition. Below is a curated overview of our instructors’ teaching philosophy, training background, and what you can expect from learning with us.

Expertise and Training

At Step By Me, we take pride in the high calibre of our instructors. Each member of our team has undergone intensive professional training in ballroom and Latin styles, often including UK & European championships, teaching qualifications from recognised dance institutions, and extensive performance experience. Their credentials typically include:

  • Certification from bodies such as the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) or the British Dance Council (BDC).
  • Years of competitive dancing in both the Ballroom (Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot) and Latin (Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble) genres.
  • Teaching experience across a range of levels—from absolute beginners to advanced couples and individual students preparing for performance or competition.

This rigorous background means our instructors bring far more than steps: they bring insight, structure and a deep understanding of how movement, rhythm and connection create memorable dancing moments.

Our Approach

Our instructors deliver classes with three core principles in mind:
1. Technical Precision:
From footwork and posture to timing and alignment, our teaching places strong emphasis on foundational mechanics. Whether it’s achieving the rise and fall in a Waltz or the hip action in a Samba, instructors guide you step by step—ensuring correct technique before layering complexity.

2. Musicality & Style:
Ballroom and Latin dancing isn’t just about doing the steps; it’s about feeling the music. Our instructors help students develop an ear for rhythm and phrasing, interpreting the pulse of the music through movement. In Latin styles, you’ll be encouraged to express connection, flair and character; in Ballroom, you’ll focus on elegance, flow and partnership.
3. Personalised Progression:
We recognise that every dancer arrives with a unique background, learning speed and goal. Whether you’re dancing solo, with a partner, or aiming for competition, our instructors tailor their approach accordingly. They provide individual feedback, set appropriate challenges and celebrate milestones with you.

What to Expect in Class

When you join a class, you’ll be welcomed into a warm, inclusive environment where learning is accessible, fun and structured. Here’s a typical class experience you can look forward to:

  • Warm-up and posture drills: Begin with gentle movement to activate muscles and focus on alignment, core stability and partner connection.
  • Technique segment: Your instructor will introduce or reinforce foundational techniques—such as foot placement, hip action, body turn, or partnering skills.
  • Figure-work & combinations: You’ll learn specific figures (e.g., Tango corte, Rumba underarm turn) and work through linkings into progressive combinations that build confidence.
  • Partnering drills and social application: For couples, there is clear focus on connection, lead/follow skills and timing. For solo dancers, emphasis is placed on clarity of movement and readiness for social floor situations.
  • Performance or social run-through: The instructor will lead students through practice to music—either as a rehearsal for performance or simply to experience dancing fully and confidently.

Cool down & feedback: Classes typically end with a gentle stretch and short feedback from the instructor—highlighting improvements, suggesting exercises and setting mini-goals for the next session.

Specialisations and Styles

Our instructor team brings strengths across a wide spectrum:
• Ballroom specialisations: Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep
• Latin specialisations: Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive
• Show-dance, couples choreography, group routines
• Solo Latin and partner-free formats for those without a fixed dance partner
• Performance preparation and competition coaching, including rehearsal planning, musical interpretation and costume/visual presentation advice.
For example, if you are preparing for a wedding first dance, one of our instructors will tailor a choreography that complements your choices in music, suits your comfort level and reflects your story as a couple.

Why choose Step By Me's Team?
  • Depth of experience: Many of our instructors have danced and taught internationally, bringing global exposure and refined techniques.
  • Tailored support: Whether you’re new to dance or heading into competition, you’ll receive instruction that meets you where you are—and helps you progress.
  • Both partnership and solo options: Not all dancers have a regular partner; our instructors are adept at teaching both contexts.
  • Focus on enjoyment and confidence: We believe that dancing should feel as good as it looks. Our instructors foster a friendly atmosphere, where laughter and learning go hand in hand.
